Abstract |
Objective The use of frameless stereotactic systems for intraoperative image guidance has evolved considerably over the last
decade. In our institution we use an optically based system which is commercially avaible throught ‘Cyber Med’. In an atempt to
quantify and qualify the use of frameless stereotactic systems we report here on the use of such a system in 55 consecutive
cases.
Material and methods: All 55 patients were operated from November 2005 through January 2007.
Results The pathologies were astrocytoma in 7 ,meningioma in 9, other tumors in 23, ICH in 2, AVM in 6, and abscess in 2.
Our indications for using the In2NeuroTm were three fold:(1) To plan the craniotomy and therefore minimize the required surgical
exposure, (2) To locate deep seated subcortical lesions, (3) To aid-in the extent of resection. The system was accurrate to <3mm
in all cases and no lesions were falsely localized.
Conclusion It has provided us with increased accuracy in localizing lesions and minimizing the resection of normal brain. |
