Spinal Subdural Hematoma after Temporal Lobectomy in a Patient with Intractable Epilepsy : A Case Report

Abstract

Spinal subdural hematoma (SDH) following craniotomy is rare. Most reported cases of postoperative spinal SDH occurred after surgery for cranial SDH. We report the case of a spinal SDH that followed epilepsy surgery. We also discuss the mechanism of its development. Six days after a temporal lobectomy, a 30-year-old woman presented with lower back pain radiating to both lower extremities. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a lumbar spinal SDH. The patient was managed conservatively with intravenous steroids. After 5 days, her symptoms began to improve. The spinal SDH spontaneously resolved without surgical intervention.
